Regional Director - Kentucky, Indiana

Helen Simms is one of the regional directors for the state of Kentucky. She has a bachelor of psychology from the University of Kentucky and her RN degree. She started with Active Day in September 2008; however, she is not new to adult day care.
Prior to Active Day, Simms worked for a publicly-held health care company in an operational role for almost 17 years, with 10 years of experience in adult day care. She also worked as the supervisor for the Children’s Hospital. Simms’ commitment is to provide quality adult day services in a caring environment to all families and clients at Active Day.
Simms is married and has two teenage boys. She is a volunteer at her church and in her children’s school. She and her family reside in Louisville.
Regional Director - Kentucky, Indiana

Mary Yarmuth has worked with Active Day since September 2008 as a regional director for Kentucky. Prior to her roles as a regional supervisor, she worked with Active Day in various consulting roles since 2005.
Yarmuth’s educational background is in nursing and she has been a registered nurse since 1972. Her nursing career has stretched over many years and includes experience in the hospital setting as well as home and community-based services. For nearly 25 years, Yarmuth worked as a senior level executive with a public company providing home health care and adult day care in eight states. She was the senior vice president of the adult day care division of this company from 1996 until 2005.
Yarmuth has always been a true advocate for families caring for an elderly loved one at home and for persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities. She supports the mission of Active Day to keep individuals with special needs regardless of their age at home and active in their communities as long as possible.
Regional Director - Ohio and Massachusetts

Jane Coomer has spent most of her career working in geriatric health care. Prior to her role as regional director for Active Day, she spent 10 years as the executive director for a company that provided home health care as well as adult day health services. Coomer provides operational management and oversight for four centers and a Personal Care office in Massachusetts as well as the two centers in Ohio. In addition to being a regional director, Coomer is the current center director for Active Day of Columbus. She has served as a trustee on the Ohio Association of Adult Day Services Board for four terms.
Coomer received her bachelor of social work from the University of Louisville. Although she was born and raised in Louisville, KY, Coomer and her husband have lived in the Columbus, Ohio area for the past 40 years.
She has two children and three grandchildren. Her personal interests include serving on the board of directors for a family-held company with head quarters in Kentucky and spending time with family.
Regional Director - Maryland and Delaware

Rhonda Ruigrok became the regional director for Maryland and Delaware in 2008 after being the center director at Active Day of Harford County for nine years. Ruigrok earned her bachelor of communication disorders from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where she met her husband David. After leaving UMASS, she became a certified teacher and also held certification in teaching reading to adult learners.
Ruigrok’s worked as a developmental specialist and speech therapist for the State of Massachusetts, and as a supervisor of an educational collaborative also in Massachusetts. After moving to the Baltimore area in 1983, she worked for United Cerebral Palsy and The Arc of the United States.
Ruigrok has been on the board of directors for ARC Northern Chesapeake Region and GAIN-the Geriatric Access and Information Network and currently sits on the Board of the Maryland Association for Adult Day Services.
Regional Director - South Carolina

After graduating with a bachelor of social work from North Carolina State University in 1990, Wendy Moore worked as a social worker and admissions coordinator in a long term care facility. She left the nursing home after five years to work for the Urban Ministries of Raleigh, North Carolina in their Open Door Clinic. In 1997, she was promoted to program director of their Crisis Intervention Program.
Moore joined the Active Day team in May 2000 as a center director in Greer, South Carolina. In 2006, she was promoted to regional director for South Carolina. She has more than 16 years of experience in the health care industry. She currently serves as President of the South Carolina Adult Day Services Association.
