Answers to FAQ's:

1) What are Adult Day Services (Adult Day Care?)

If a relative falls ill with Alzheimer’s disease or some other chronic, debilitating illness, many families may feel as if they have only two options for care: either have someone in the family take on the role as full-time caregiver, or place their loved one in a nursing home.  Other options exist that represent a middle ground between these two difficult extremes. One such option is Adult Day Services.

Adult Day Services are the fastest growing segment of the community based-care market.  It is growing so rapidly because of the aging of America’s population and the desire of families to keep older loved-ones at home and in the community.  Adult Day Services is a program that is designed to meet the needs of adults with functional or cognitive impairments through an individual plan of care.  These programs offer a cost effective alternative to nursing home placement with the goal of improving the client’s ability to remain independent.  The typical Adult Day Health Center provides nursing care and health services, meals, transportation, and therapeutic activities in a safe and structured environment.  Individuals who participate in an Adult Day Health Center attend on a planned basis during specified hours for as few as two days a week.  Adult Day Centers generally operate during normal business hours five days a week, some on Saturdays.  They assist clients to remain in the community, enabling families and other caregivers to continue the care at home.  It also provides much needed respite for the caregiver.

Active Day Inc. calls its programs, ACTIVE DAY CENTERS, because we recognize the importance of stimulating our clients physically, emotionally, and mentally.  Each client benefits from our Activities Programming which enables us to provide activities that meet an individual’s interest and function.  They experience maximum benefit from the activities as a result.  Our Active Fitness Program, a specially designed program for the senior population, increases strength, flexibility, balance, and improves mood.

Physical, occupational and speech therapies are a natural addition to our facilities by further promoting our clients’ ability to remain independent and by improving their overall health status and level of function. When medically necessary, these skilled services are provided to help our clients overcome or compensate for the effects of illness and disability.  Outpatient rehabilitation improves our clients’ ability to participate in activities of daily living, ambulate and communicate by increasing their strength, range of motion, flexibility, balance and cognitive abilities. All of our therapists are specialists in working with the elderly and are uniquely qualified to provide our Active Rehab Services.

Active Nursing Services includes specialized programs and activities of in-home care.
